Nile Day 2015 celebrations a success

Nile Day 2015 celebrations a successThe 9th Regional Nile Day celebrations held on 22nd February, 2015 at the Blue Nile Beach on the banks of the River Nile in Khartoum, Sudan has been hailed as a success. The colorful event brought together at least 500 stakeholders from the Nile Basin region and Friends of the Nile.

The celebrations were attended by Ministers in charge of Water Affairs in the Nile Basin countries, including H.E. Prof. Dr. Hossam Mohgazy of Egypt, Minister for water resources and Irrigation.

He underscored the need for Nile cooperation “for the sake of our children and grandchildren”. In this respect H.E added that from now on Egypt will be at the Heart of the Nile Cooperation. This is the turning point as it brings the much needed allinclusiveness in the Nile River basin as Egypt had frozen its participation in the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) activities for the last five years over differences on the Nile River Basin Cooperative Framework Agreement 2010.

Others who took part in the celebration were members of the Nile Technical Advisory Committee (Nile-TAC) diplomats, development partners, government officials and Members of Parliament. Others are researchers, academia, civil society, youth, media, school children and the general public.
